AWARDS

The Association / College has awards to encourage research activities in the field of T.B. and Respiratory Diseases as well as their contribution to the specialty.

(A) WARNER NCCP (I) ORATION (renamed as PARKE-DAVIS NCCP(I) CHEST ORATION in 1992)

The Warner Hindustan Ltd. through the Asthma, Bronchitis & Cancer Lung Foundation of India, funded annually an oration on any aspect of Chest Diseases, to be delivered at the time of the annual conference. On the special request of the donors, the 151 oration was delivered in 1972 by Dr. Vishwanathan, who had perhaps the longest experience in the field of chest diseases.

The name of the oration was changed to Parke-Davis / NCCP (I) Chest Oration since 1992, on the request of the organization since Warner Hindustan Company merged in Parke-Davis Company. The award was finally discontinued after 1995. The list of orators is given below.

(B) RAMAN VISHWANATHAN MEMORIAL ORATION / LECTURE

An eminent scientist working in Pulmonology created the Raman Vishwanathan Endowment Fund of the National College of Chest Physicians of India with the objective of arranging the Raman Vishwanathan Memorial Lecture every year. The first lecture was delivered in 1989. The following eminent scientists of Pulmonology have delivered the lecture so far.

It has been renamed in 2012 as “NCCP (I) – Prof. Raman Vishwanathan Memorial Chest Oration”.

(C) NCCP(I) CIPLA CHEST ORATION

NCCP (I) Cipla Chest Oration was created with the objective of arranging oration every year by an eminent scientist working in the field of Pulmonology, preferably on Bronchial Asthma. This award was sponsored by MIS Cipla (India) Ltd. The first oration was delivered in 1997. Following persons have so far received this awards :-

(G) NCCP (I) YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD

The award is given to the young scientist under 35 years of age, who presents the best paper in that awards category in the NAPCON. This awards was started in 1997.

From 2005, this award has been increased from one to three awards as 1st Cash Prize for Rs.3000/-, 2nd Cash Prize for Rs. 2000/- and 3rd Cash Prize for Rs. 1000/- to encourage the young persons.

From 2010, the award has been increased as 1st Cash Prize for Rs.5000/-, 2nd Cash Prize for Rs. 3000/- and 3rd Cash Prize for Rs. 2000/- to encourage the young persons.

From 2012 all papers selected (maximum 9) for the presentation in this category will get Rs. 5000/- as Travel Grant from NCCP (I).

(H) NCCP(I) – Prof. M.M. SINGH MEMORIAL LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

(Formely known as NCCP(I) LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD)

This award was instituted in 1999 and is given for dedicated services over 4 decades in the speciality of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Medicine. The award is given when a suitable person is considered and is not mandatary every year. The award has been given so far to the following persons :

MEMBERSHIP

The College shall consist of Ordinary Members, Life Members, Fellows and Honorary Fellows.

(a) Ordinary Members :- Any person possessing a medical degree recognised by the Indian Medical Council Act, as

amended in 1957 or a postgraduate / Doctorate degree in basic medical sciences and who is in active practice ( or has shown scientific or practical interest in the speciality may be propose for membership of the college. They should be preferably in possession. postgraduate qualifications.

Applications for admission to membership shall be made to the Secretary of the College in the prescribed form together with enrolment and annual fees and shall be the signatures of two Fellows Members who are prepared, from personal knowledge to support the candidature. The fees after deducting incidental charges will I refunded in case the application is rejected or as approved by the Governing Council of the College.

(b) Life Members:- Any person who is eligible for ordinary membership may be, if he so desires, made a Life

Member on the payment of a lumpsum equivalent to 10 years of annual subscription in lieu of annual subscription provided all conditions as laid down for Ordinary Membership are satisfied.

(c) Honorary members : Fellows and members of the college who are over 65 years amd are not in active service continue as honorary members and don’t pay annual subscription charges.

(d) Fellows :- Such members of the College as have distinguished themselves in the speciality for at least 5 years after postgraduation are eligible tI consideration of the award of Fellowship. The award of Fellowship shall be decided by the Credential Committee governed by the Regulations framed by the Council from time to time. All Fellows are entitled to suffix FNCCP(I) to their names during their active fellowship of the College.

Fellowship is considered only after becoming life member of the College.

(e) Honorary Fellows:- The number of Honorary Fellows shall be limited to 100 and they will be persons elected in

recognition of their knowledge of, or contribution to the study of the speciality. They will be recommended by the Council for approval by the College at the annual General Body Meeting.

They will however not have the right to Vote. Not more than 3 such fellows shall be elected in anyone year.
